Inside a house in my grandfather's village, Hainan Island， China

我告诉亲戚我是搞建筑的，对村里的老房子很有兴趣。亲戚便打了车带我和父母回到村里，挨家挨户串门。村子里二战之前到南洋的人去的多。墙上挂的照片是这户人家南洋的亲戚寄过来的。照片里的人，虽未谋面却感亲切。

I told my relative that I'm very interested in the old village buildings because I'm an architect. He brought my parents and I back to the village in a taxi, and tried to get me into any house he could. Many people from this village had left for south east asia before WW2. The photos on the wall came from the south east asian relatives of this family.

我们从束河骑马到周围的山上转。经过一处小村，村里有处小学。小小的教室里面竟是预备班、一年级和二年级的共用课堂，唯有黑板是分年级的。老师不在，小朋友正在玩耍。

We rode out to the nearby mountains, and found a little village. In the village, there is a small school. There is only one classroom. Preschool, primary one and primary two students all share the same space but use different blackboards. The teacher was not there and the kids were playing.

去西藏之前已经读到资料告之旅者上公路前应该准备一些糖果或其他物品好送给路上的人。西藏西部的环境困难，拉萨与大本营之间的公路又是游客必经之路。一停下车就会有游牧民过来。老人带着孙子走到我们的车旁，我把几颗糖果递给他孙子。

是从深圳开车到开平去的，大概5个小时左右。一路上经过新雨后的翠绿田园，顿时觉得离开东莞越远，广东省的景色就越漂亮。开平建筑结合西方风格、也引用了当时最好的建筑技术。这楼梯如果不是钢筋混凝土，恐怕早塌了。
